The Wound Healing Center consists of a multidisciplinary team of health professionals who work collaboratively to ensure that patients receive the most comprehensive evaluation and treatment. Surgical wound services are available to remove non-healthy tissue if needed, as well as more extensive debridement procedures in the Operating Room. In addition, infection control is managed by oral and/or topical antibiotics. Wound healing procedures include measurements taken at every visit to monitor progress.
The latest in Wound Healing comes with the introduction of a state of the art Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) for patients with wounds that have not responded to other treatment. HBOT supplies the oxygen the body needs to stimulate and support healing. This new form of treatment has proven to help promote wound healing and restore the body’s own ability to repair itself. Unlike many other hospitals, St. John’s Riverside Hospital Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a single chamber allowing for personal interaction with the technician. Other benefits include a communication system to allow for constant dialog with the technician and an individual TV console to make your treatment as comfortable as possible.
The Vascular Disease & Wound Healing Center team includes a Vascular Surgeon, a Podiatrist, a Plastic Surgeon and a team of well-seasoned nurses. The team performs angiogram procedures identifying the need for stents or plaque shaving efforts. We diagnose all these patients with state-of-the-art radiology and ultrasound services that is the best technology you can find including CTA, MRI and Ultrasound. Dr. Patel’s team helps patients get their lifestyles back. The procedures they conduct are great first steps prior to full blown open bypass surgery, with 92% success rates following the year after the surgery. They follow patients and keep the success rates up by working as a community within the hospital. The team follows them through the wound care process and makes sure they heal. The Vascular and Wound Healing Center’s professional team of nurses is dedicated to a patient’s care and well-being both in the hospital and when they go home.
Visits are usually scheduled weekly or biweekly, depending upon healing progress. A wound photo is taken periodically to visualize progress. Patient education is very important to us, our dedicated nursing staff provides education about wound dressing change technique, signs/symptoms of infection, underlying conditions that caused the wound, and measures to prevent recurrence as part of the healing process. Services offered by home health care nurses, nutritionists, orthotists, and physical therapists are coordinated as needed.
