“The green roof tops are designed to reduce the hospital’s energy consumption, improve our energy efficiency, and slow local storm water run-off, “ said Ronald J. Corti, President & CEO of St. John’s Riverside Hospital. “As a hospital, we are also interested in the intangible benefits including increased patient healing and a better environment and experience for patients, staff and visitors,” he said. We pride ourselves on our ‘green initiative’ focus and this seemed a natural next step in our efforts.”
Edward Brown, AVP of Interfacility Support Services at St. John's said, “This project is very important to the hospital and the local community because in addition to reducing and slowing storm water runoff, these rooftop gardens will also extend the life of these roofs, while providing noise and thermal insulation. They will also increase the energy efficiency of these buildings, lowering the hospital’s costs for heat, electricity and air conditioning.”
