At St. John's Riverside Hospital, we strive to educate you about your procedure, make you as comfortable as possible during your stay, and provide you with the best care available. Offering a full range of surgical services, our board-certified surgeons perform more than 15,000 operations per year in state-of-the-art operating rooms.
A leader in minimally-invasive surgery
Our operating rooms are equipped with the latest, minimally invasive technologies to perform a wide range of procedures including: urological, neurosurgical, vascular, gynecological, orthopedic, otolaryngologic and general surgical cases. St. John's Riverside Hospital has invested in the Stryker Navigation System and Zeiss Microscope that allows our surgeons to operate with the utmost precision. All 7 operating rooms are equipped with the PACS (Picture Archiving Communication System), which allows the surgeon to digitally view radiology images taken at St. John's Riverside Hospital. With PACS, physicians are able to make more informed patient care decisions. Also new in our OR is the state-of-the-art surgical table, made of carbon fiber and no metal parts, which allows the surgeon to take x-rays while the operation is ongoing. This acquisition has been instrumental in performing minimally invasive abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery.
Preparing for one-day surgery begins with your physician who schedules the operation. When your physician schedules your procedure, a date and time for pre-admission testing/education is also scheduled. On the day of your pre-admission testing/education, you will proceed to the Admitting/Registration Department. Following registration, the pre-operative nurse will complete certain paperwork, draw the required blood work, complete an EKG (if ordered), and escort you for a chest x-ray (if required). The pre-admission testing nurse will talk to you one-on-one about preparing for surgery, what to expect after surgery and necessary pre-admission paperwork. Prepared, educated patients have a much faster recovery from surgery and are far more satisfied with their care. Please keep your appointment. If you are unable to keep the appointment, your physician's office will have to reschedule.
Delivered by an Anesthesiologist or Certified Nurse Anesthetist, St. John’s Riverside Hospital will provide personalized anesthesia care for each of our patients. Our Anesthesiologists are Board Certified Medical Doctors specializing in the field of anesthesia. They will create a unique anesthesia plan for your surgery, monitor and remain available throughout your surgery. The Nurse Anesthetist will stay with you for the entire procedure, constantly monitoring modifying the anesthetic to ensure maximum safety and comfort.
