Born and raised in Queens, Ron received his education in NYC public schools. Following high school, Ron attended Fordham University receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and his Masters Degree in Public Administration, Health Administration from Long Island University.
Ron climbed the corporate ladder with successive positions at Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield of New York as an Auditor followed by Assistant Director of Finance at Mt. Sinai Medical Center. In 1988 he joined Yonkers General Hospital’s finance department bringing his unique combination of experience and knowledge to a hospital in crisis. Soon after, Ron became Vice President of Finance. One of his major accomplishments was facilitating a full asset merger with St. John’s Riverside Hospital. “Ron’s strengths include formulating a vision, communicating it and motivating people to carry it out successfully,” said Kevin Fay, Board Member of the former Yonkers General Hospital. “Following this vision prevented the hospital from closing in its entirety and essential services such as substance abuse treatment and primary care remained available to the community.”
Once St. John’s and Yonkers General merged, Ron assumed a new challenge as Vice President of Strategic Planning and Business Initiatives. In this role, Ron formulated and executed an acquisition strategy for the financially troubled Community Hospital at Dobbs Ferry. In 2002 he became President and CEO of Community Hospital. “At the start Ron was able to see exactly what needed to be done. His knowledge of the hospital industry helped him to take a very under utilized facility in trouble and within 2 years, have it operate at maximum capacity and growth. His ability to work with the staff and the physicians breathed new life into our small facility,” said Greg Fisk, former Chairman of the Board of Community Hospital at Dobbs Ferry. “Without his leadership, the Rivertowns community would be without vital emergency services as well as some of the top rated specialists in the area.” It was this leadership that became the foundation for the successful fight against the New York State Berger Commissions attempt to close Community Hospital at Dobbs Ferry.
In October of 2010, Ron was chosen to assume the position of President & CEO of St. John’s Riverside Hospital. Once again, Ron has taken the vision of high quality community healthcare and combined it with his strategic leadership, financial acumen, integrity, and ability to motivate both staff and physicians resulting in an amazing quality and financial turnaround.
The Salvation Army is proud to salute Ronald J. Corti for his remarkable achievements in preserving quality healthcare for thousands of residents in Yonkers and Southern Westchester.
