St. John’s Riverside Hospital’s Cochran School of Nursing is proud to announce that in addition to their affiliation with Mercy College, they have also joined forces with Excelsior College. This collaboration will enable its associate degree graduates to pursue advanced degrees through Excelsior College’s accredited, nonprofit distance learning program. Its School of Nursing is designated as a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education by the National League for Nursing. Under the new agreement Cochran graduates – as well as employees of Cochran School of Nursing - are eligible to enroll in Excelsior’s RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at reduced rates for tuition and fees.
The Cochran School of Nursing is the oldest hospital-based school of nursing in the metropolitan region. “Cochran School of Nursing’s articulation with Excelsior College will provide an additional opportunity for graduates of our school to make a seamless transition into an educational program in nursing leading to the bachelor’s degree. The flexibility of Excelsior’s program is ideal because graduates of our program can work as registered nurses while furthering their education. Additionally, this partnership allows Cochran and its graduates to be completely in line with the recommendation from Institute of Medicine and national nursing organizations calling for more registered nurses prepared at the baccalaureate level. We welcome this partnership and the benefit it provides our graduates” said Karen Davenport, R.N., Ed.D, Dean of the Cochran School of Nursing.
Commenting on the agreement, Excelsior College President Dr. John F. Ebersole said “Through this joint initiative we’ll be able to build a direct pipeline for Cochran graduates to earn an advanced nursing education at Excelsior and meet a growing demand within the health care industry for well-educated nurses.”
