"Pathways Home" Seminar
9/4/2012 2:12 PM
St. John’s Riverside Hospital’s Pastoral Care Department will be hosting a “Pathways Home” seminar on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 from 9:00AM – 1:00PM. This informative and interactive seminar is geared toward members of the clergy and family members of returning veterans.
We have seen more than two million soldiers off to war in recent years, and more returning home every day. And yet, really coming home and taking up their lives again is not so easy. Leaving their military comrades, and trading the rhythms of military life for those of family and work in the United States is often overwhelming. The “Pathways Home” seminar will inform attendees how to help those who fought so hard and gave so much really come home.
The seminar topics include “Work and Family Challenges for the Returning Veteran” by Lt Cdr. John P. Eddy, 439th Medical Battalion; Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ; “Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome/Traumatic Brain Injury by Rev. George Handzo, BCC, co-author, US Navy’s “Spiritual Care Handbook on PTSD/TBI”; “Creating Welcoming Congregations” by Glen Milstein, Ph.D. CUNY Professor/Researcher/Author on Current Issues of Returning Veterans; “What Resources Are Available To Our Local Veterans and Their Families” by St. John’s Riverside Hospital’s own Frank Laudato, Director of Military Health Services/ Patient Relations and Army Reserve Captain Chaplain Osvaldo Tanon.
The seminar will be held in Room 111 at St. John’s Riverside Hospital; Andrus Pavilion; 967 North Broadway; Yonkers, N.Y. 10701. For more information or to RSVP contact Rev. Sarah Fogg, PhD at 914-954-4368 or firstname.lastname@example.org
