St. John's Riverside Hospital needs a new Emergency Department (ED). It is the fastest growing healthcare facility in lower Westchester County. The ED currently sees 38,000 patients in a space built for 25,000 and its volume is continuing to grow at over 3% a year. Yonkers is the third largest city in the state of New York and needs an emergency facility that can meet the needs of its residents.
It is important to recognize that the healthcare community in southern Westchester is vulnerable and we need to keep our Hospital strong and efficient through projects such as this Emergency Department expansion.
St. John's is also the largest private employer in the city and a project such as this will have great economic impact, both directly in health-related and construction jobs and indirectly with an increased positive impact on the local economy.
We therefore request your support in having the State Department of Health provide HEAL funding for this vital project.
